Understanding Volumetric Weight
What is it?
Volumetric weight is the space your shipment occupies in a transport vehicle or container, expressed as a weight equivalent. It ensures fair pricing for both light-but-bulky and heavy-but-compact cargo — useful when shipping vehicles with personal effects or container-based vehicle shipments.
Formula
Volumetric Weight (kg) = (L × W × H in cm) ÷ Divisor
Divisor varies by mode: 5000 (Air), 4500 (Surface), 1000 (Sea / Container).
Which is charged?
The higher of actual weight and volumetric weight is charged. This is called the chargeable weight of your shipment.
Example Calculation
A box measuring 50 × 40 × 30 cm with actual weight of 5 kg, shipped via Air:
Volumetric weight = (50 × 40 × 30) ÷ 5000 = 12 kg
Chargeable weight = MAX(12, 5) = 12 kg
